Step 4: appoint the builders
Your dream home is about to become reality – it’s crucial you find the right builder who can help make that happen. Word of mouth and recommendations are a great place to start – particularly if a builder is recommended by other trades. You could also look to The Federation of Master Builders (FMB) or The National Federation of Builders (NFB), which help you find vetted and trusted builders in your area.
It's always wise to ask to see references of any builders you consider, as well view other projects they’ve completed similar in nature to yours, so you can get a feel for their talent and how they work.
Once you’ve created your shortlist of builders, it’s usually advised to get quotes from at least three builders so you have a point of comparison and can make a better-informed decision according to your budget. And of course, it goes without saying that your final checks should ensure your shortlisted builders have the correct insurance in place.
What you've already done at this stage

What you still need to do at this stage
- Consider door designs.
- Look at door finishes.
- Discuss with Deuren for further advice and expert opinion.

What is the difference between internal pocket and sliding doors?
While a pocket door slides into a hidden compartment or recess within the adjacent wall, a sliding door, although similar in its mechanism, doesn’t. A sliding door glides parallel to the interior wall. Here, we take a look at other key differences between the two doors and consider their benefits and where they might be best placed.
Internal doors - things to consider when building or renovating a house
Good quality contemporary internal doors can dramatically affect the style and feel of a house. They are the key centre pieces of a room, making the first impression as visitors as they enter your home.
